On the Rocks! Did you know that Bugle rock formation in the Bugle Rock Garden, in Basavanagudi, Bengaluru is perhaps one of the oldest rock formations in the world? According to geologists, the stones in the garden are part of peninsular gneiss, a rocky layer on which the city is based. Bugle Rock or 'Kahale Bande' in Kannada gets its name from an age old practice of a sentry holding a torch and blowing a bugle at sunset to warn people of any intruders into the city or to tell everyone that the area is safe. Spread over an area of 16 acres, you will find most of the rocks here are hollow and were once used to light lamps. Bugle Rock garden houses one of the four watch towers which was built during the reign of Kempegowda (during the 15th - 16th century), the founder of Bangalore and hence has historic importance.
