A Tonal Mood In Black And White
Many many years since then
I've been standing by the window
thinking of you with a lighted cigarette in my left hand, poised for the first blissful smoke,
I am thinking of you and see before my eye
you somewhere far away
walking to the farthest stretch of the cold alley-way
to buy a fag in my name.
Standing in that god-forsaken lane,
I can see you bend your head, guarding carefully
the match-light with your hand,
a drop of light on your darkest night.
