Two Mermaids

 Above the ocean's floor

the two mermaids breathe,
suspended in the void
where nothing else breathes
save the two of them.
It's time to leave
and break out of the bondage
each to each.
The sea is such a homogeneity!
the swirling tides, the onrush with the winds,
and yet nothing breaks;
the sea is whole!
How will the mermaids
break free of the sea?
